Donations

Donations can be made to our store during open donation hours.

No closed-hour drop-offs are allowed.

Read the following topics for donation tips.

Items We Accept

  • Clean, laundered, undamaged, unstained clothing
  • Stained, worn clothing – bag and mark ‘recycle’
  • Working electronics
  • Working, undamaged, complete toys
  • Clean, unbroken tableware
  • Clean, unbroken cookware
  • Clean bedsheets
  • Artwork
  • Hardware
  • Unbroken knick-knacks, decorations

Condition of received items impacts our ability to generate funds. Dirty or broken items create a burden, which causes a loss in our process.

If you need boxes or totes to borrow, stop by the donation door and inquire. We often have some available for you to use to pack items into for donation.

Prepare Your Donation

Do not donate items that can not be sold in our store. This includes broken or damaged items, items that have been recalled or are unsafe, and items we currently do not accept (see list above).

Place clothing to be recycled in a separate container from the clean, saleable clothing. Mark the container ‘to recycle’. Remove any masking tape or thrift sale stickers (masking tape often leaves residue or damages clothing on removal and prevents resale). Remove clothing from hangers. We do accept some hangers for resale.

Pack breakable items separate from items of clothing. Not doing so creates a hazard for our staff when items break.

Do not pack items so that they become too heavy for our staff to handle.

Please tie bags with removable knots. This allows quick opening of bags, as well as allows the bag to be reused instead of disposed of.

If you are in need of packing boxes, we often will have some available. Inquire at the donation door.

Pack boxes so they can be stacked. We are often overwhelmed by donations, and they need to be stored safely.

Arriving at the Door

Enter our driveway and proceed to the donation door. Please park your vehicle far enough ahead so your vehicle’s cargo area is forward of our door.

If another vehicle is already being unloaded or loaded, please be patient and give our volunteers and staff time to safely stage items before turning their attention to your donation.

One of our staff should notice your arrival and come out to assist you. If we do not notice, you may enter and inquire.

Our volunteer and staff levels frequently change in number, so please be patient.

Please be aware our staff may not accept your donation. This may be due to fast and frequently changing warehouse space conditions, not saleable at the time, condition or type of items, safety issues, or other factors.

Calling ahead to inquire that we may take an item is no guarantee that it will be accepted when it arrives at our donation door. We appreciate your understanding. Be prepared to have a ‘backup plan.’

Scheduled Pickup

Call the store manager to discuss a pickup of your undamaged, unstained furniture. Please be able to send pictures so we can make sure the item is fit for resale.

There is a flat rate pickup fee within the City of Durand, and a per-mile fee for locations outside the city limits.

Wishlist

We would appreciate items on our wishlist to be donated.
